TRAM CAR ACCIDENT.

INQUIRY INTO "DEATH OF A WOMAN,

Fatal Walk Across the Road.

Further evidence was taken bes fore Major C. Willson at the Con- tral Magistracy yesterday at the inquiry into the death of a Chinese woman who was knocked down and fatally injured by atram car near the Tai-Ping Theatre. At the pre- vious hearing last week it Was stated that the woman had bound feet.

A hawker was called yesterday, and said that just prior to the ac- cident the woman approached the standard between the two sets of tram rails from the land side. She stopped by the standard, and at that time witness saw trama coming in both directions. When the woman was knocked down the car travelled some distance before it stopped.

The tram did not appear to slacken speed as it approached the woman. The witness thought the driver failed to see the woman, and did not stop until some one called out.

A servant girl who was with the woman at the time of the accident, said they intended to board a car going to Kennedy Town, The woman went to the standard be- tween the tracks, apparently think- ing that she could board & car there. This witness gave simi- lar account of the accident as that furnished by the previous one.

The Inquiry was adjourned.
