KINSHAN FIRED ON.
PICKETS ENDEAVOUR TO STOP SHIPMENTS OF FISH.
No Casualties.
The Kinshan, arriving from Can- ton yesterday afternoon, reported that whilst at anchor on Saturday evening, she was fired on by strikers in motor boats, a number of shots striking the vessel, the scarred and chipped paintwork bearing testi- mony to the marksmanship of the riflemen,
It appears that the strikers were mainly concerned with the preven tion of fishdealers putting their wares on board the Hongkong bound vessel. Patrols have been active for some time on this" ser- . vice, but their efforts have hitherto been directed at the boats approach. ing the river steamers and when shooting has taken place, care has Deen takes not to range in the vicinity of the steamers,
Such safeguards have now beep abandoned and as a number of boats slipped through the patr on Saturday, the strikers opened, fire on the boats already alongside, with the results mentioned above. It is understood that there were no casualties...
French Steamer Seized.
A Canton message says that a French steamer, coming to Canton from Hongkong, was seized by the strike pickets, who demanded search for boycotted goods before allowing passengers to go ashore.
