This year all nations in the U. K. took part in the walking match at Shanghai. The Irish team took all the benours and lost by a misfortune. The, English team was second, and the Scottish third, while the Welsh, having only a small namber of walkers to choose from, were not among the prize winners this time. The Ewo Handicap Challenge Cup race was held on St. Andrew's Day at the Shanghai Race Club and attracted a good number of spectators, who thoroughly appreciated the hospitality of "The Muckle Hinose." There was great amusement before the start, for which there were a number of attempts before the field get away. Mr. A N. Dallas on Greenland won easily, though carrying 175 pounds. -Inset shows the winner being led in by the owner.

At II. M. Consulate at Shanghai, recently before Mr. Sidney Barton, C.M., Consul-moral, Miss Clarice Sara Moise, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Moise, of San Francisco, was married to Mr. Arthur do Carlo Sowerby, of Shanghai, son of the Rov. Arthur Sowerby and the late Mrs. Sowerby of Maidenhead, Borks. A reception' was later hold at the residence of Dr. Anne Walter Fearn, whore there was a large gathering of guests. The above picturo was taken during the reception. The bridegroom is of world famo as a naturalist.
