STRIKE SETTLEMENT.
CANTONS HOPES FOR EARLY SOLUTION.
With regard to preparations for negotiating with the Hongkong representativos re the strike settle- ment terms, the Canton Gazette. say the workers have elected nine. plenipotentiaries, namely. Bo Sluching, Tsang Chi-yam, Leong Chi-kong, Cheong Hing-wong, Lee Fo-sang, etc. It has been report- ed recently that the authorities perceived that it would be more effective to have a smaller number' of representatives for negotiation. Consequently, after procuring the approval of the strikers, the as- thorities decided to select only three from the nine elected pleni- potentiaries to negotiate a settle- mont with the Hongkong represen- tatives: Again, it is reported that the various strike organisations are taking great precautions in select- Ing the three plenipotentiarles be- cause their mission is a very res- ponsible one. The Gazette adds:
"Recently the news 'in regard to the resumption of communications between Hongkong and Canton, as well as the settlement of the As strike, is highly promising. previously announced, the Hong- kong Government has already selected representatives for neg→ otiating the terms set forth by the Strikè Committee.
"Consequently during these days, representatives have been con- tinously travelling between Hong- kong and Canton for this express purpose. The two parties are kely to come into closer terms with each ather day by day, and the settlement of the strike does not now seem far of."
