The political outlook is confusing and uncertain. M. Briand is regarded as the only man capable of forming a concentration Cabinet Based on the majority of the Centre, and Left and not on the Left Cartel as were the Herriot and Painleve Cabinets.
Various parties of the Left Cartel held tweetings after the resignation of the Cabinet but were unable to agree on a policy. Finally a joint conference of Socialists, Ratient-Socialista, and Republican-Socialists passed a resolution declaring their determina- tion only to support the Cabinet of the Left under M. Herriot or M, Briand. These three groups represent a total of 278 Deputies there- fore it is essential that they shall obtain the support of at least twenty of the forty of the Radical-Left group to assure a majority in the chamber to form government prepared to carry at the Cartel's policy. NEW POLAR EXPEDITION.
Rome, November 23.
The Italian air force officer, Colonel Nobile, the engineer who invented and constructed the airship in which Captain Amundsen and Col. Nobile and a crew of fifteen mochanies will undertake a Polar flight in the spring, gave a lecture of the university in the presence of the King and members of the Government, civil authori ties and prominents citizens. He stated that the scientific goal of the expedition was to establish the presence of land or sea and the actual nature of the Polar region.
The proposed course of fight would be from Spitzbergen to Cape Barrow, North Alaska, a distance, of 2,200 miles, 700 miles of which separate Spitzbergen from the Pule.
It is estimated that the journey will take sixty-five hours. As. it is impossible to construct a hangar at Spitzbergen a special shelter 00000000000os ¦ will be built with a mooring mast. The airship will travel to Spitz- berger in three stages via Pulham, and Trondhjem. Preparations are in full swing. The experiments in, fabrics capable of resisting the temperature of the Pole were successful.-Reuter.
