STRANGE STORY,
Alleged Working of a Curse. When the late Lord Northcliffe died shortly after his vieit "to Australia, much prominence was givon to a mysterious story of a Buddhist curse laid on him, and two others. It was stated that Lord Northcliffe, Governor- General Maurice Long, and M. Andre Tudesq, an editor of Le Journal (Parie), had some four years ago violated the sanctity of a hidden temple in the tropical forests of Cochin China. As they passed the threshold of the anci- ent building, a solitary Buddhist priest, livid with fury, confronted them, and prophesied that within. five years the three would ba dead. Not long afterwards Lord Northoliffe passed away in strange circumstances after a visiť. to Germany. While his death was still fresh in the memory, Governor-General Maurice Long joined the great majority. Only one was then left-Andro Tudoso. A few weeks ago he died in Sai- gon, the capital of Franch Cochin China. On his deathbed he con- fided to a friend that the curse of the aged priest had followed him. like a dark shadow. His own words were "I feel the predic tion of the old priest weighing on ine like a leaden coffin." The story has created a great sensation in Paris, where a tale of Eastern mystery ie always sure of a good raception.
