THE WAR IN MOROCCO.

Paris, September 12. A Fez message states that after intensive artillery preparation by air and land the French troops in Morocco opened an offensive 'yes- terday morning on all wings of the front. The last communication snys that all objectives, which wore the posts occupied by the French before the Rian aggression, had been attained everywhere. The enemy, after a little resistance, begun to retreat towards, the North... Moan- while the foreseen counter attacks to be opened to-night by Riffs groups are signalized by aviators. Franco-Spanish messages from Morocco Indicate a slow but certain advance with casualties small. A Madrid communique says Spanish troops have reinforced the western front and have continued operations, occupying positions affording advantageous starting points for further advance. The enemy suffered heavy casualties. amounting to 500 alone on the Benihozwar sertor near Tetuan.

Reports from Teturn states that the general commanding in Morocco in a communique says that the troops 'yesterday advanced two kilometres and captured a village after most obstinale fighting. ports from Melilla state that two Spanish cruisers and some transports without troops feinted a landing at Wadlau on the 11th. The End of the Season.

The lawn bowls season is now, practically over, and both the championships of the first and second divisions having now been settled, little interest reinalns Jn the few matches yet to be played In the second division.

On Saturday, Taikoo journeyed to Kowloon Cricket Club and won

a pleasant and interesting match in the second division of the Lengue by 78 points to 49. Talkoo were up on all three rinks. Muir- head, whose rink has not been down once this season, had a great fight with the four wkipped by Davidson; and managed to finish up a point to the good. At one paint early in the game, the home. rink was down seven points, but) they gradually recovered and only just lost. The other two rinks went down heavily. The follow- ing are the scores:

The death has occurred at Singapore of Captain James Smith Scott. Captain. Scott whose age was 69, is one of the shipping pioneers of Singapore, his service ranging as far back as over forty years ago, He has commanded many vessels and he was last in command of the coasting steamer Ban Teck Guan plying between- Singapore and Malacca. Ho retired from his duties at sea some six months ago and after doing. so he expressed the desire that when he died he 'should be buried at sen. His request bas been granted.

Tilden was nearly three hours saving the match against the con- fident Lacoste who was faultless in the first two sota after which Tilden was four times within the point of defeat but recovered his invincible style.
