THE SHIPPING STRIKE.
Melbourne, August 31. Important developments are likely to result from the sacret conference at Sydney last week-end between the labour leaders and the trades-unionists. It is understood that labour is endeavouring to settle the strike preferring to fight the deportation issue In connection with which thero is talk of a federal election.
A leading member of the Cabinet is of the opinion that an election will be held in a few months. Soveral applications have already been made to the Government to join the special police although the bill has not yet been approved by the Senate which passed it on a second reading after a strenuous debate. Sum- monses have been served 'requesting Messrs, Walsh and Johannson to appear before the deportation board on the 3rd. September. Reuter.

The Transvaal labour conference has passed a resolution, res cognising the justice of the seamen's strike and calling on the Government to refuse, support the shipping companies against the strikers. Colonel Cresswell, the labour minister, opposing the resolution, deprecated the action of the men refusing to carry out" the agreements entered into by their unions-Router.,
STINNES LIQUIDATION.
Beriln, August 81.. The banking consortium entrusted with the liquidation" of the Stinnes concern announces the successful completion of its labdurs, by which the Company's debts of 120,000,0000 Marks will be fully paid and a further twenty million Marks are expected to remain to the credit of Hugo Stinnes heirs.. This unexpectedly successful result is due to the utmost exertions of the consortium of twenty-two banks who realized that a catastrophical result would have followed if they had falled, It is stated that the Stinnes coal mining business will be floated into a public company with a capital of twenty-five million Murks, a large part of the shares being handed to the Stinnos family, after the creditors of the old-concern-have been paid-off

The enforcement of this agree ment required long negotiations which recently came to an end by the signing by the French Minister in Peking and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of a supplementary agreement which enables the B. 1. C. Lo fulfil those conditions of the Transactional Settlement concern ing the Far Eastern creditors.
The designation of Far Eastern Creditors shall apply to the follow ing categories:

The bands offered to the Far Eastern creditors are of 50 G.S U. S. A. and bearing interest at 5 per cent, payable half-yearly that is to say G.$ 1.25 on the 15 January and G. 1.25 on the 15th July, of every year. The first coupon due on 15th July will be paid on delivery of the bonds.
The bands are redeemable in 23 years by drawings taking place on the 1st December of every year, reimbursements being effected on the 15th January following. The first drawing will take place on 1st December 1926.
Payment of coupons due and reimbursement of drawn bonds will be effected:
(A) In New York in U.S.A: Gold Dollars at a place to be designated
