IMPROVED BY LONDON CONVERSATIONS.
London, August 18. M. Brland loft for Faris this morning In excellent spirits and obviously delighted with the result of His visit.
"I can remember conferences, which did not reach successful conclusions," said M. Briand smilingly on the eve of his return to Paris. He added, "Notes are formal things which do not accomplish as much as can be done by means of informal conversations, when ylews can be more fully aired and expressed, M. Briand returns full of confidence and impressed with the cordiality of the conversations in London. His visit demonstrated the value of the direct method of axchanging views as against the writing of Notes.

Gaulois says that Germany cannot now count on serious disagree- ment between Paris and London. L'Echo de Paris says that Mr. Cham- berlain, during the last few weeks, was able to judge the unpopularity of the idea of the pact in Britain and the Domlulons.. He realised that he had gone too far in his promises to France.. M. Briand can therefore be convinced that the guarantee pact offered by Britain may be called a non-guarantee pact.
