THE FERRY SERVICE....
The words "Enclosing Our cards" at the close of the letter in the Canton Gazette must have been added by someone on the paper itself, for no cards at all were sent.

SERVANTS WAGES.
Sir,-Now that the servants are drifting back to work again, many are enquiring what course is to be adopted for the payment of the June wages.
It is clear, from legal opinion which recently appeared in the local press, that the legal parinity for servants leaving without notice before the end of the month is that they forfeit all their wages for that month.
This line of action has been adopted by the management of the Hongkong and Shanghal Hotels and It is very much to be hoped that the general community will follow their Joad and thus secure, a uniformity of action, and avoid and difference of treatment by different employers, In the Interest of the foreign. com munity it is more than time that smployees should realise that if they break their contracts they pay the legal penalty for the inconveni
ence they cause-Your, etc.
