The report of the official receiver of the Batavia and General Plan- tations Trust, Limited, which is in compulsory liquidation has been issued. The accounts show liabilities to be £102,000, and the 'asseta £4,000, and a deficiency of 4919,000.
In regard to contributories the official receiver's investigations are still proceeding and in view of the distances involved It will prob- ably be protracted. The chairman of the Trust attributes the fallure to depreciation in the value of the Company's Investments, owing partly to depression in the rubber industry, and partly to statements by the shareholders' committee injuring the Company-Reiter, -
JAPAN'S NAVAL ARMAMENT.
London, May B.
The Daily News naval correspondent, alluding to the Japanese Navy Department's deprecation of the alarmist view of Japanese naval expansion, shows statistically that Japan since the Washington Conference has actually laid down thrice as many new fighting ships as the British Empire and United States together. He remarks that. direct while it is not contended that this increase constitutes a "menace" to any other Power, it inevitably reacts on unval policy throughout the world and must to some extent be held responsible for the recent conditions of the naval budgets of Britain and the United States.—Reuter.
POLAND AND GERMANY.
+ Warsaw, May 6. Two more attempts at train wrecking are reported. Two bombs, were found on the Vilna-Riga line near Dukszty, and a barricade of stones near Lublin-Reuter.
When similar efforts, were reported" on May it was alleged that this was a German plot to discredit Poland by making it appear that the Polish "corridor" was unsafe. The corridor is the strip on the Baltic given to Poland under the treaties, to which alloca- Lion Germany objected.]
