A BEAUTIFUL TEA LOUNGE. This exquisite faterior; carried out by Messrs, Arts and Crafts, Ltd., is one of the most beautiful to Shanghai, and, as can be seen from the picture, the architectural design is of the finest. The panelling of this new Palace Hotel las lounge is tu strikingly fine Imitation stone of the kind found to old Italian palaces, the pilasters being inset with classical figures. The ganar- al scheme is carried out in old wine colour, and the unique lighting effects are thrown down from behind filigree plaster work which ornaments the celling. The grant feature of this lounge is the beautiful fire- place with its miniature set of three classical figures and coat of arms on either side. The general ornamental work of this particular part of the lounge cannot be fully appreciated unless seen from close. quarters.

THE NEW FALACE LOBBY.-This photograph gives a good idea of the transformation that has been effected in the Palace Hotel lobby and shows the beauty and design of the, teak panelling. Massive dark gold pillars support a delicately tinted cream ceiling of austere decoration. The whole style is Italian Renaissance, one of the features of the lobby being the magnificent staircase with its four grotesqua nevel heads. The windows are of stained glass with Stuart period designs, and the boating facilities are pro- vided by radiators cunnlogly enclosed in gilded grills. Messrs. Arts and Crafts, Ltd. are resporrible "for the whole cffect.
