THE YACHT CLUB. CREW.
Whatever regrets the rowing coaches of the Royal Honghong Yacht Club may have that they are unable to soad n single souller to Manila, they should be able to tako great comfort that to-day they will dispntoh to Manila a really good class four lo do battle with the best of the Manila Boat Club. For aix wooks, and under conditions ombracing all kinds of good and bad water and absences from the boats, the coaches have worked as stron ously as the crow and the result will be known after Manila bas boon met, and it is to hopod, defeated.
Yesterday evening the crow bad its last trial before doparturo by tho B.B. Yuon Sarg to-day. They rowed roughly a mile course in none too good water. At the start they were paced by the pair that is also proceeding to Manila and who had a hundred yards start. Thon a quarter of a mile from home a scratch four picked them up with two lengths start and finished the course with them.
The Club four started off aplendidly, striking about 30 and rapidly increasing to 32. All four rowed ovenly and strongly, and with an attractive style that gladdened the hearts of the few watchers on the launch. Grovos is an excellent stroko and he has three splendid workers behind him, well trained and in first class condition.
Graven was striking fast the whole way and at times reached $4. He picked up and passed the pair whon two thirds of the course had bean covered and called for a great epurt in the last quarter to catch and overtake the frosh scratch four. All rondily responded ord kooping excellent timo caught and held them and at the winning post had half a length clear lead.
Coaches Satisfied
The concbes, Mr. F. J. Easter- brook and Dr. E. 1'. Minett, ex- pressed themselves well planeed with the effort and it can be fairly said that if Maaila is too good for the Hongkong four then it will be a four entitled to a good deal of respect.
The pair, Robertson and Header. sob, rowed woll and did their boat
peformance since they started training.
During the week the four was split up to make two pairs in order that ono pair might provido a third event with 0 similar pair from the Manila four. Tho, Hongkong four was divided into a light and a heavy pair, Rasmussen nud Bishop against Easterbrook and Groves. The former pair, hanvios, won with ease and if Mapila is agreeable they will represent the. Yacht Club in a recond race for paies.
The crews and their weights follow, nad the four will be noticed as a very well balanced boat.
