DEATH OF MR. AH FOOK.
Much regret is expressed in local reging circles at the death of Mr. Ali Fook, who for many youre has been No. 1 mafoo and public trainer at the Hongkeng Jocksy Club stables. Tho docoased passed away on Sunday from phaumonia. The funeral took placu ynstorday morning at the Chinesa comotory at Sookon poo, being very largely attended.

On Sunday, January 11. n Portuguose tug, the "OVAR," was towing a junk containing passen-pirates immediately jumped into' gors and merchandise from Kong the water and most of them were 5, moon towards Shiu-Fiing when shot by the European guards. an armed launch suddenly darted whilst attempting to make their out from a small creek in the vicinity of Tai Ping Shon and signalled the "OVAR" to stop.
The master of the "OVAR" immediately recognised the other launch as one which had been stolon by pirates from the Canton harbour about a month previous- ly. Realising that it was a hold- up by piratos, ho continued on his couree and gave orders to the crew to cut the tow rope. As the

Altogether over 50 pirates wore accounted for and great crediti reflects on the two European guards who put up such a plucky fight in spite of great odds.
The launch which was sunk was well-known in the Canton harbour before who was stolen about a month ago. She was registered at the French Con- sulato as the Sun Fook.
