Celebrating to-day the 25th anniversary of its' "catablishment, the Binuero Company, whoso nume is kauwn all through the East, will be the waipient of inany congratula- tions from foreign and Chinese friends alike. It was a quarter of a century ago that the Company first began operations in Hongkonge with a mall store in Queen's Rond, Hongkong. The capital of the concern was then $20,000. To-day, the Company owns bugo department stores in Hongkong, Canton and Shanghai, hina dopots n many other parts, opérates hotels, soap and machine works, is affiliat ed with a number of banking and insurance concerns, and hos a fully paid capital of seven million dollars. Such, in brief, in tho record of thia onterprising concerns, during a period of twenty-five years. | -

It was in 1800 that a small group of Chinese merchants, who had lived many years in Australia, and had there become impressed with modern business methods, resolved to open up a department store in Hongkong based on the "fixed price" principle, by which protract- ed bargaining. Ho custo ry ia Oriental transactions, it bo replaced by marked prices. Mr. Ma Ying-piu was at the bond of this little group, and he in atıll associated with the Company an honotary managing director. Ho atates that when he arrived in Hongkong it took him no less than three days to get together personal outfit, so great was the time wasted in going from shop to shop and indulging in almost endless bargaining. This convinced him more than evor of the need for a "fixed price" department store immense, The difficulties especially the definite broaking with Pald custom," but he persevered and although many times almost beaten he has lived to seo his dream more than fulfilled. To-day the Company is standing on a firm basis, with its operationa extended for and wide. Mr. Ma Wing-onn is the provent managing director, and he has as his fellow- directors a thoroughly enterprising and capable group of business men. Sincere in More Than Name.

Their big place in Hongkong in in Des Vieux Rond, whilst in 1912 a similar store was built in Canton and in 1917 an even bigger one in Shanghai. In addition to these hugo emporiums, where every kind Cof ̈uctioĵo eun be procured, the Company operates a soup works at Samihuipo: machine works Houam, Canton: factorios in Honghong, Canton and Shanghai| for the supplying of all manner of goods to their stores; and the Oriental Hotels in Conton and Shanghai. The Company is ako affiliated with the Sincere Ingur nnco and Investment Co., Ltd which has bennches in important cities in China and Malaya; and with the Sincere Life Assurance! Co., Ltd., which is also known «li over the East. It also specialisen in banking, and has depots in many parts of China as woll as in London.
Throughout the whole period of its oxistence, the Sincero Company has stuck firmly to its principle of "fixed-prices," and has deservedly won a reputation for fair dealing and quality consistent with reason- able prices.
