An Australian girl, named Elsio Forrest, whe came out to India in 1904 as a dancer in a theatrical company of which the strong man. Sandow, was, the star, has boch the principal character in a consational' suit for maintenance against the Raja of Tikari a young nobleman of Bengal.
When she arrived in Calcutta, Elsie Forrest was already ́mer- ried to another member of the same company, named Sitwell, in Caloutta. She attracted the at tention of the Raja of Tikari, howover, and returned to Sydney, where she divorced her husband. and then came back to India where she married the Rajs of Tikari. Some months ago she sued the Raja for maintenance under a deod of gift which, sho alleged, he had entered into.
The Judge before whom the cago was tried dismissed the claim for an annuity, as the alleged deed in her favour was not in offoot legal deed. The Judge also found that her alleged marriage with" the Raja was illegal, because har [conversion to Hinduism was not according to Hindu law, and also because, her divorce from her husband, Sitwell was obtained in a Sydney Court. He also found her conduot after marriage 'Buch as not to obtain for her the
sympathy of respectable society.
The Judgo also expressed the opinion that the claim of the Raja for the recovery of the Tikari family jowols from the plaintiff was likely to succeed, as these wore given for personal adorn mont only and not as a gift.
