THE FIGHT FOR SHANGHAL.

Shanghal, Sept. 15. The reappearance of sunshine signalled the general resumption of fighting in all sectors, particularly along the railway, where capture Hwangtu, with Klangau is desperately attempting to Cheklang defenders entrenched with machine guns along the creek bank. succeeding in holding the line through the day.

It is also reported that severe fighting has taken place near Yihing with lesser activities at Liuho, where it is believed that the Kiangau line has been weakened by the supply of reinforcements to; the southward..

The foreign settlements have recovered from the first alarm and are accepilng the situation philosophically, although business is generally suffering acverely. The number of Volunteer Corps doing active duty has been considerably reduced, but there is no reduction In foreign naval forces that have been landed.

Thore has been fighting of a most sanguinary character along the railroad at Ilwangdo for the past 48 hours Over 200 Chekinng wounded have been brought in to-night and an observer has estimated that there were even a larger number of killed.

The fighting was the result of the advance of the Cheklang, flank to a point beyond Anting in which they were trapped by enalladed machine guns.

It is reported that the Klangsu casualties were equally great. Sixteen hundred Cheklang reinforcements have arrived from Hangchow and Ningpo. These were uniformed and armed ut Lung- wha and dispatched to the front.

The Chinese Chamber of Commerce reports that it has obtained permission from both aides to bring in rice boats under specially designated flags.

It is reported that General Mayuzung who has been command-i ing Kiangsu forces at Linho has been transferred to Ylhing.
