An island distillery oquipped with all the neconsary apparatus for making the forbidden leverago) has been found in Donegal Bay, off the wild Sligo coast. Inish- morray, which, being translated, menns Murray's Island, is a rocky island {1 urile 111 length sejurate:l by four milos of treacherous sea from Stroedigh ilead, in Co. Sligo.
Suspicions were aroused owing to the quantities. of poteen in circulation on the mainland. A watch was kept on the water, and boats were soon, making porilous night voyages to a romote part of the sea cliffs betweon Bundoran and Sligo town.
A boatload of Civic Guarde with armed soldiers left the mainlami under cover of darkness and landed on Inishmorrny. Hero they discovered targo potuan stills, one of which was actually working at the time.
Eight large barrels of toen were found and more than thousand gallons of putoen wash. Tho Civic Guards, aided by soldiers, arrested a man named Wators, known as "the king of tho island," and also Dan and Michael Hogarty, and carried them back to the mainland.
A special court was hold at Sligo and Waters was fined £50 and sent to hard labour for throo months. The two Hogarty's wore finod £25 oach, with three months' hard harbour.
