PREMIÉR MACDONALD'S TRIP TO FRANCE.

London, July.. 8.,..

The appears to be the strong ground for hope that Premier- Macdonald's decision to go Parle will clear up misunderstanding and materially assist in averting the downfall of M. Herriot, and therewith the indefinite postponement of the Inter-Allied conference on reparations settlement. His decision has immediately produced a change of tone in Paris where it was recafved with the greatest satisfaction. The debate in the Senate wherein a big opposition Attack has been anticipated, has been postponed until after the visit.

Premier Macdonald, prior to departing for Paris, said that his visit, must be taken as an Indication of a desire to see the settle- ment of Anglo-French relations, and to remove all miscnderstand- ing, the more particularly so in view of the fact, that he is suffer- ing from a severe attack of bronchitis. The duration of his visit will depend on circumstances, but he hopes to return by Thursday.

CHINA TRADE MARKS LAW.

London, July 8.

It has been announced that in view of the Manchester Cham- ber of Commerce's disapproval of the suggestion that, the Boxer Indemnity Bill might provide a means of bargaining with China for a revision of the Trade Marks Law, Mr. A. M. Sámuel has with- drawn his opposition to the Bill. The Manchester Guardian says that good hopes of a settlement of the trade marks dispute are entertained and that the dropping of the indemnity claim as far as the British Government is concerned will probably increase the grounds for these. hopes.--Renter.
