As in this instance I am satisfied, that Public Officers placed in the same position as Mr. Prow, would be glad that, without the long delay occasioned by reference to England, their connection with the Service should cease at the earliest possible date, that they might seek other employment.

Until, however, your lordship has had time to come to a decision upon the case submitted, they should properly stay in the Colony where, as a rule, they are without means of obtaining a living. Thus the punishment which is inflicted on them by Government is aggravated to such an extent that an Officer becomes an object of public charity, and harm is thereby done to the Service in lieu of the good effect of prompt justice.
