LITTLE LESSONS LEARNED.
That oven the nicest people aro vain of thoir little faults.
That love is, not blind, but scOS our failings startlingly large in contrast to the minimum at which it would gladly estimate thom.'
That some troubles are like wunde and must be bandaged in silonco.
Thatsympathy is more precious than advloo.
That when áll's said and dony the best side of life always turns.
BACK TO THE NEEDLE.
An ombroidery hobby of the moment is work done on printed Hrfon-the flower patterned kind used for furnishing.
The groundwork is sown over in an irregular quilting of chain stitch in fine cold motal thread, and the flowers are boldly outlin
ed in chenille, raffia or silk or perhaps in all three, with tiny porcelain bonds to mark the flower contre.
A very gorgeous fabric, lock- ing like a rich Parslan ombroidery,
in the result. Paris is using it for gay looso coats, for sunshades, hats, envelops bags, and drose trimmings. The short coate cost about ten guineas and upwards, and the material can be bought for about three pounds a yard.
SHOES OF THE SEASON.
The fashionable shoe is the one-strap sandal, which may be of black kid, patent leather, or the deep brown cordovan leather. The heels are sure to bo low.. and without the Incurvo, which the French love so. But the low Louis XVI. heels appear in the little black palont Jeather shoes which some women affect with tho inilored suit.
There is also va grout variety of now design in simple sandal-like shoes,
which the bootmakers are offoring for wear in the street. Some of these are curved right down to the Role of the shoo botween cel and vamp, thus ehow. ing tho curve of the instep.
One charming pair, of cordovan leather, with Lonis heals and round tooe (which, by the way. are returning to fashion after two years of thá long, pointed-tood shoes) was cut to the sole at each side of the instep, and had a rather heavy of double inlaid strap leather Travorsing the instep from laide to side.
Then, of course, thore are the lowheeled ties and brogues with, their adorn- ment of punched leather, which the English and American women profor for wear with the suit.
VERY SMART.
Above is pictured ́u "simple" little hat adorned with trim- ming of kid, and a costume of white crepe de chiné-finished with brocaded bluck and white trimming.
COLOURED KID GLOVES.
Short, flower-bright sunshades laby flower, and ribbon trimmod hats with wider brime ; rød, green, and blue show and shoes of white with black strappings; sunburn coloured stockings; floating scarvos of chiffon; wrlat-longth gloves in colours to match the shoes-all those are delights of this summer.
USEFUL TO KNOW.
That suede shoes are mo casily cleaned if all spots are first rubbed with coarse glasspaper.. The whole surface should thon be cleaned with fine glasspapor or with one of the wire, brushor sold for the purpose.
