The Mails--from London of 7th and 14th February were delivered in Calcutta on the 9th and 10th instant respectively; and our latest advices by telegraph are to 12-50 p.m. of yesterday.
Stock and Money Market--The rates for money at the Bank of Bengal remain the same; there is a fair demand.
GOVERNMENT PAPER--In Government paper there is so much business doing and rates are tending downwards --

Exchange. In Exchange the bias for the mail has been small; rates are finally higher; Bank bills 1/4% to 1-9/17, and telegraphic transfers 7-11 to 7-13/16. On Bombay bills we are ruling at 1/8 per cent discount on demand, and 1/4 per cent at 30 days' sight. On China a small business has been done at 205/8 to 206/8 for 30 days sight.
Freights have been ruling quiet during the fortnight, and there is no special change to report. There has been a full supply of steam tonnage on the berth, and as a result light freights have been rather easier. By the Cape round freights business is doing at former quotations and there are not many vessels offering. The enquiry for the United States is languid, but there has been some demand for steam to Bombay.
CHARTERS.
For Penang--"Corabuta," arrived on the 8th instant, we previously chartered in England so much cargo; for Brudeaturwa" 1,845 tons, was at £3-12-6. For New York "Abilios," 1,300 tons, iron, at $13 for 400 tons grain freight and $9 to $11 for 200 tons logs here or Singapore. For Havre--"Horial," at £4. For Bombay Ste. "Red Gauntlet" to arrive, lin. 22 per bun alt. out.
ENGAGEMENTS.
For London via Suez Canal--Str. "C. Boreman," 800 tons Jute at £9-7-6; "Malwa," to arrive, 800 to 400 tons Jute at £3 7-6, 160 tons Rice £3-0-0: for less and Lucas--Str. "Colono," to arrive, 500 tons Hides or Cotton, at £3-10 to £5-18-6. For Rio de Janeiro via the Cape.--"Sita," 203 tons Jute at £2-12-6, 6 tons Rice at £2-13, 33 tons Cotton, at £8-15/- to £9. For Calcutta and Nagpore, our 500 tons Cotton at £3-17-6. For Liverpool "Edward Parry," 369 bales Cotton at £8-19-6, 390 to discharge.
IMPORTS--There is fair general demand as has been experienced for almost all piece goods, grey and bleached, the past fortnight, and it has been on a fair average sale for the season.

season: sellers have enlarged to meet the off-take freely, and prices show a tendency to quote lower on off-shore basis but buyers generally are cautious and show symptoms of increasing when the "Poonah" holidays are over in a few days. The classes in chief request are Grey staples, and lately Malwa Shirtings, Jernings and Mulls have an increased inquiry. The light and heaviest classes of goods have, up to date, sold only slowly for the season and there is, comparatively speaking, no inquiry for many desirable tinted and Colored lots are out of stock, but retail sales of the latter like place from day to day for the Upper Provinces. All Tar is dull with a downward tendency: dealers having dated business in expectation of there being over shipments lately. The Arrivals in prices of cotton radiotectores on the Bombay side, in the too sluggish selling market for Raw Cotton, have given considerable support to importers being cautious and the moderate shipments reported at Madras also exercised a beneficial influence. Piece goods took their hand, however, presented more in value, and it is thought that it will require a continuance of the gay season's off-take for another fortnight before any good or Bartlett sheet is produced on the market. The liberal allowances to the interior the last three weeks do not appear to have stimulated to any extent in dealers' zagrla, and favorable inferences are being drawn from the fact that the retail enquiry is on the most extensive; but it grumbles stocks in first hands are lessened unusually, prices will probably recover very slowly as of late, and any heavy purchases Press the holders she, at the comparatively high prices ruling there, and on the late better market bars, are not unlikely to come in disappointingly.
Exports--Barity of Tonnage has interfered greatly with our export trade since last issue. Linseeds have experienced great fall lately, and the talones is still lower, as the news of very abundant crop seems to have in great measure checked home and foreign Rates, and late advices from there are very discouraging. Piece sales of medium Linwood Baggere are going on at 11a. 4-3 for 4 per cent of day and June delivery vitriol, price establishes a fall of 2 as per maand with a fortnight agreed--There is nothing doing for export; prices, however, are cash in a bank. Poppy--There is usually mind. Naports dem the interho are very satisfactory for the season --Telia -way Ettle doing and prinse my casier. Rice--The quality of late arrivals of Wudle is inferior, and the demand for ustida has been off. There is only a small inquiry for rough-rice and low Falls for Fondos at rather easier prices.
