Į phenomnonon. 'That Morris Motors Limited, have struck the right noto with the publio in patently [ovident from the observations of Mr. W. R. Morris tho govorning director of the Company, whon) at a dinner recently given at Coventry, by Murris Engines, Lid.. he stated that bo bollovod, this your, his company would | have an output of 1,200 cars a
wook. Only the week previous-' ly, ho received orders for 1,200 cars. His principle, in regard to his mon, was that in paying a high wago, he cheapened produc tjon. Ho paid his mon 2s. 3d. per hour, whereas a French man- ufacturer of a popular car only paid Gd. an hour. The secrot of hia success, Mr. Morris declared, was that by giving his men a good | wage, they were enabled to go home, after a day's work, and enjoy themselvos in a reasonable mannor. Having donu everything himself, from swooping out the shop. to acting as governing director, he was led by his ox- perience to beliave, that a man turned out more work if he receiv od a livingwage. 17,000 men word now in the employment of his firm. There was no reason why Americans should produce enra more cheaply than an English concern. The British working nan had more "ginger" in him, than had the American. A cause of much ungmployment and. in- dustrial unrest to-day was that captains of industry would not roaling that they must pay a reasonable wago, and that the |men must be kept happy and cón- tunded, if a good output was to bo secured. Politically; he was a * Colorvative, but he was on the
side of labour all the timo.
Mr. Morris added, that the wook before ho spoke, Morris Engines, Ltd., turned out 625 automobile engines.

THE
HE use of "worm
gearing in Commercial Vehicles is now almost universal. The compliment thus paid to Messrs. Dennis Bros. Ltd., by the leading makers of the world, will convince the thoughtful observer that they were RIGHT, and that he will be well advised to decide in favour of a "DENNIS" machine when adopting or extending, the use of Motor Transport.
Here is a tip which the Motor Cele gives, anont 4 cause of faulty stooring. When a solo machino becomes difficult or "tricky to stuer, it is sometimes due to pittod ball races in the hond. This can usually be identi fled by a tendency for the steer-i ing to stick." in the dead-ahead position, and is frequently found on-machinas-which-nro-used-for- sido-car work at times. Tho trouble lios in imperfect-perhaps badly hardened-racos, each ball making a slight depression in the race, in its usual position, i.o., dead-ahead. No romady is effec- tivo savo ronowal-of the races, which means completo dis- mantling of the stooring head. A fresh set of races is advisable, even if one only, is badly pitted, and great care should be takon to ensure that the now races aro driven absolutely "home," with a suitable drift, in the head lug of the machine,........
