FROM THE WORSHIPFUL THE MAYOR OF LEEDS, JOHN BARRAN, Esq.
LEEDS, August 6th, 1872.
SIR,
I have great pleasure in bearing my testimony to your uniform good conduct
and courtesy since I have had the pleasure of knowing you in connection with our Borough
Engineer's Office.
As far as I am able to form an opinion on the work devolving on you, I have
no hesitation in stating that you have brought to bear on it a large amount of determination,
and no little self-denial, in order to attain success.
I have observed with satisfaction the great interest you have taken in our
Washburn Works, and think your experience there must be valuable in fitting you to discharge
the duties of such an office as that you now seek under the North Riding Magistrates.
Much as I should regret to lose your services in connection with our great works,
I wish you success in your present application.
Yours faithfully,
JOHN BARRAN,
Mayor.
MR. WILLIAM DANBY.
