PUBLIC INTERESTED.
The past year or two has mark. ed a vigorous revival of interest in the keeping of tropical fish, and many observations bearing on the habits of these unfamiliar crea-· tures have been made by amateur aquarists. The facts thus brought to light, particularly those relat- ing to courtship and breeding. are intriguing in the extreme; they do, however, but touch the fringe of wider problems, and the new aquarium should offer facili- ties for a great and important work.

Aspecial artesien well has been sunk in the Gardens to ensure an Fadequate supply of fresh water, while the sea water for the marine section is being obtained from the nearest port'on the North Sea.
According to the original esti mates, the venture will cost close on £100,000 to carry through, and reçtire erly £4,500 per annum for its maintenance. Something like 50,000 gallons of water will be kept in constant circulation through the tanks.
