latest date to which it would have been made up if it had been forwarded with the Estimates reference to the vote for the Gardens Establishment and for maintenance of Public Garden, Your Lordship will find that the total amount granted for this year is less than allowed for 1892.
In that year, in addition to $1,900 paid through the Survey Department, there was a sum of $3,000 for the new Gardens and $3,000 for the maintenance of the old Gardens and $1,000 for planting Trees, amounting altogether to $11,700.

For 1873, with a view to showing clearly what sum is paid for the salaries of the Superintendent of Gardens and his Subordinates (who were formerly paid out of the vote for Maintenance of Public Gardens), the new establishment was created, but in accordance with the existing personnel. Then the amount to be spent for planting trees (not in the Gardens but in other places) and maintaining the Gardens, which were under the Superintendent, viz: $3,000, was voted in together with the vote for salaries,
