I have received letter No. 105 of the 5th of May last forwarding a memorial addressed to me by certain Residents in Hong Kong, respecting the dismissal of George Briarty from the Police Force of Hong Kong, and praying that compensation may be awarded to him.

2. You will inform the memorialists that I consider that the Colonial Government were justified in dismissing Briarty for conduct which was distinctly mentioned, and that I must recognize any just claim on his part for
