Alexandria, Feb. 23.

The three months' strike at the textile factory "Filature" Was settled a fortnight ago by the intervention of the Governor, but the operatives yesterday repudiated the agreement. One thousand of them remained in the factory all night, the women bringing with them their food. The men declare they will run the works on their own account and have formed a'species of Soviet Operatives Egelin Cotton- seed Factory and are behaving like Soviets. The situation is causing uneasiness as Nationalist intrigues are suspected. Zaglul has been ta the asked, to intervene. The Sunday Times understands that although the Chancellor of the Exchequer will have a surplus when the national accounts closed next month, Mr. Snowden does not expect to be enabled on the first budget to do much taxation remission although something may be done to reduce sugar duties.
