Cairo, Feb. 90,"

The Egyptian Government has cancelled the Hoence granted to Aloina, Countess of Carnarvon,

It is officially announced that the dockers' strike has been with regard to the tomb ol

settled.

Messages previously received gave the following itams relating to developments leading to the settlements-

London, February 20

In giving evidenca before the Dock Strike Enquiry Mr. Ernest Bevin pointed out that the dockers had unwillingly accepted reduc- tions totalling 6- a day since 1921, because they were fighting to establish national agreements and abolish casual labour which was a social disgrace. Their present claim was a reversion to the wages paid in 1929. Mr. Bevin asserted that many employers had not given permission to reject the claim, indeed hundreds of companies want- ed to pay the increase.

Sir Norman Hill, on behalf of the shipowners, contended that wages reductions were necessary in consequence of bad trade. While: freights had fallen working expenses had not diminished and many shipowers had abandoned hope of ever making profits.

The Chairman said the strike must be settled without delay, The Court hoped to report to the Minister of Labour on February" 22. The Court was adjourned.

Strike Spreads to Ireland.

The dockers strike has spread to Ireland. Following Instruc- tions from London the dockers at Belfast have declined to discharge ships from Britain. The dockers at Londonderry have also struck

Washington. February 20,

"I accept the challenge given

by Kaote Hansen, provisionally. if the Hongkong Boxing Associa tion will stage the fight at their next meeting.”

Before this acceptance came to hand, we made enquiries in local boxing circles as to the probability of a match being fixed up and were informed that Callaghan is really a middle-weight, but that the might see his way to accept the challenge. Failing this, it WBS .possible that there might be men amongst he new naval drafts who yould be willing to meet Hansen.

It is understood that the Republican Senators, during the last few hours, have been increasingly pressing for Mr. Daugherty's resignation. Mr. Daugherty, in a brief conference with the Pre- sident, re-affirmed his determination not to resign under tire. He then returned to the Department of Justice, where he dictated a statement affirming his decision to stay in the Cabinet.

HER P's & Q's-AND HOSE.

("The Peak Tramway Company announces that a pair of ladies. silk stockings have been found in the tramcar"-Bulls und Inners).

How the jolly thing happened, I cannot suppose. That a lady should somehow forget her now hose.

+

Perhaps in the tramcar she took a short doze, Then, reaching the terminus, hurriedly rose, And scrambling out on other folks toes.

She didn't remember the package of hose.

Or maybe she'd purchased a whole lot of clothes. Made up of weird frillies, and ribbons and bows-" - And clutching so tightly the parcels of those,

She didn't remember the package of bose.

Or else for a dance, these sheer cobwebs she chose? To her in her loss, all my sympathy goes; She now in the old 'uns her limbs must enclose.

She should have remembered the package of hose.

Imagine her chagrin A little breeze blows, And, as breezes will, rather more will expose Than she likes of the dains. Lerd only knows

Why she didn't remember that package of hose.

Ilow the jolly thing happened, I cannot suppose. But the fact still remains--she forgot her new hose!
