even received a Letter from the Honorable Acting Colonial Secretary stating that His Excellency, the Governor was pleased to dismiss George Briarly from the Police Force; and he was, consequently, on the following day discharged.
24. Before this date, i.e. whilst the case was pending before the Magistrate, Articles appeared in the local Newspapers distorting the facts, and omitting everything that told against Briarly, & it is owing to these Articles that the Memorial in question is drawn up as no application for information from official sources has been made.
