CAMPAIGN.AGAINST LEPROSY.
ERADICATION OF SCOURGE WITHIN SIGHT.
(Reuter's Service-)
London January 31,
A campaign to raise a quarter of a million sterling for, the British Empire Laprosy Relief Association was inaugurated at a meeting in the Mansion House presided over by the Lord Mayor. Messages from the Prince of Wales and Lord Reading were read, tributing the work of the Association. Lard Chelmsford said the fact that Sir H. D. Rollaston, the president of the Royal College of Physicians, and Sir Leonard Rogers, had identified themselves with the Association, constituted an assurance that the claims made on its behalf could be substantiated. Sir H. D. Rolleston, pointed out that there were at least three hundred thousand lepars in the British Empire. There was good reason to believe Sir L. Rogers had found a cura in the fatty acids of certain oils, and the preparation called morrhnate of sodium.
Sir L. Rogers stated that the trial of chaulmoogra preparations in 4,067 cases in the Philippines indicated that numerons cures were possible. Dr. Frank Oldrieve anticipated that the Empire would be practically free from leprosy within thirty YCAIB.
Lord Chelmsford announced the receipt of a hundred pounds sterling from H. M. the King, also a hundred pounds from the Prince of Wales. The Duke of Devonshire declared that the movament was viewed with the greatest satisfaction by the Colonial Office, as dealing with a great social problem which was pressing vOTY BOTEIG=- ly on the sdministrations of various Colonias and Protectorates. Sir Sydney Olivier said that no medical discovery had so ancouraged or overjoyed him as that of Sir L Rogers, which was comparable with the cures of malaria and yellow fever."

The corridor uniting Fiume town with Italy is restricted, owing to the inclusion of three villages in Jugo-Slav territory. Altogether about a hundred houses, with three thousand Jugo Slars. pass to Jugo-Slay territory, while Fiume harbour and three piers and the docks are lessed to Jugo-Sleviz for fifty years for an annual rental of one, gold lira, as à reaffirmation of Italian ownership.
