inspected the Office which still being used notwithstanding its admitted unsafe condition, and then decided upon appointing a Committee to report as to what had best be done, taking all the circumstances into consideration, as to rebuilding on the present site or elsewhere, as to plans, &c. The Committee consisted of Mr Lowcock (a Member of the Legislative Council who from previous training as an Engineer was specially qualified to advise the Government upon such a subject), the Surveyor General and the Harbor Master. A copy of their report, in which I concurred, I enclose herewith.

It is expected that the building will be erected for $30,000 of which amount $14,262, it is estimated, will be required for the foundations, which work is being done under a schedule of prices. The Office, however, will be built by contract and tenders will be called for, just as the foundations have been put up to the level of the ground, which will be the case at the end of June.
