YEAR-OLD CAR.

This single-cylinder Winton, built in 1900, was displayed in an "Old Car Exhibit" at a recent luncheon given by the San Francisco Advertising Club in Palace Hotel. A twenty-year-old motor car is a rare thing now and naturally this old car excited much curiosity. How long ago 1900 seems when you look at one of these early cars! In the illustration, Mr. H. L.Dwesney, manager of the Winton Com pany's branch house in Los Angeles, is shown at the steering lever.

SETS NEW. SPEED RECORD.

Thundering over 854 miles (1,365 kilometres) of desert roads! and mountain trails lying between. Salt Lake City, Utah. and Lost Angeles, California (U.S. A) e 1924 Studebaker Special-Stx standard touring car, driven by Mr. D. A. Jenkins, of Salt Lakej City broke all existing road records between these two points and lowered the best previous running time by one hour and fifty-eight pinutes.

Leaving Salt Lake City at 4: a.m. on October 14th, Mr. Jenkins' arrived in Los Angeles at 2.43: a. m. October 15th. 23 hours and: 43 minutes thus elapsing. This is one hour and ten minutes less! time than is required by the Losį. Angeles Limited, the fastest trainį between these two points.

AD

This record, timed and verified by telegraph officials, sets accomplishment for speed be. tween Salt Lake City and Los Angeles which has never before! been equalled by automobile.or railroad train.

Even more remarkable than the record of speed attained, was the endurance displayed by the car. Despite the fact that the course lay over mountain and desert roads, over which the cooling: system of the car was natural-; y subjected to severe test, noj water was added to the radiatori during the entire run. The American Express Company! sealed the filler cap at Salt Lake City and broke the seal at Los Angeles. When checked in at the end of the trip, the motor Was running a smoothly and as silently as it was when it left Salt Lake City,

With the addition of this record- four official road records are" DOW held by Studebaker in California.]; The three previous records were set by the Studebaker Light-Six. Despite innumerable attempts to lower them, these records have remained unequalled for nearly three years. They are:-
