NEW BRITISH SUBMARINE,

The new British submarine X1 has returned to Chatham after severe tests in a secret trial lasting thirty-eight knots. She carries six 50 guns and a crew of one handred. She will be commissioned early in the new year and be designed for convoy chasing-Reuter.

Some tropicalspiders have been setting up records at the Zoo, says & London zoological writer.
Three venomous giants, former ly known as bird-eating spiders, birt Dow officially christened banana spiders, recently arrived from Covent Garden, where, as is often the case, they were dis- coveted in a banana crate.
