It was reported that objectionable fittings were found on board. A summons for breach of Section 24 of Ordinance 1 of 1862 was issued against the Master who was fined five hundred dollars or three months' imprisonment.
This sentence was appealed to the Supreme Court, sent back for amendment, and an opinion was expressed by the Honorable the Attorney General that the Master could not be punished for offences under Section 24, but that he might be punished for disobedience of orders under Section 10. On this opinion, the fine was reduced to two hundred dollars or one month's imprisonment.
