MR. WILLIAM STEWART,

We regret to recard the death of Mr. William Stewart, of the Chins Light and Power Co.'s staff, which took place at 7am on Sunday, at the French Hospital Mr. Stewart took ill only a week agɔ, and on Thursday last was remor ed to the French Hospital, where re passed away quietly, the cause of death being heart failure.

Very well-known in the Colony in which he had resided for twenty- nine years, Mr. Stewart was at one time a keen Volunteer and was one of our crack marksmen on the

Among other activities he was * well. known free-mason and was active- ly connected with the Kowloon Cricket Club and the Kowloon Bowling Green Club. He was a past president of the former club. He came to Hongkong as saw-miller for the Hongkong and Whampoa Dock Company. He was regarded as a fine judge of timber and eventually after 16 years service at the Dock embarked upon business 'on his [own account as a timber merchant and prospered as such until the war intervened. Recently he join ed the service of the China Light and Power Company. Born in Scotland on the 9th May, 1867, he was 56 years of age at the time of his death. He survived by Mrs. Stewart, who for many years has resided in Gourock, Scotland, by a son who is with the Dock Com pany, a daughter, wife of Mr. R. Lapsley, also of the Dock Com- pany, and by other children whɔ¦ fare at Home.

The funeral, which was largely attended, took place yesterday afternoon st the Protestant Cemetery, Happy Valley. The chief mourners were Mr. Charles Stewart (son) and Mr. R. Lapsley (son-in-law) and among those pre- sent were Mr. and Mrs. Bolton, Mr. and Mrs. G. Dascan, Mr. and
