INDIANS TAKE TO RESTAURANTS. The restaurant habit is evident-
ly growing among Indians in Calcutta. Where ten years ago Indians did not frequent restau.
rants there are now a number of restaurants which cater specially for Indians: What is more, scruples regarding caste' restric tions seem to have disappeared entirely as many of these restau- rants are always full of patrons. DUKE OF YORK'S CAR SPEEDING. For driving the Duke of York's car in a manner dangerous to the public, Cecil Thompson Sharp the Duke's chauffeur, was fined £5 and costs at Bertford. It was stated in evidence that Sharp approached a blind corner in the village of Eaton Socon at a speed of between 30 and 35 miles an hour, and that, in pulling up, the car left marks on the road for a distance of 60 yards.

The big fish eat the small fish.
The small fish, in their turn, Eat smaller fish; of all fish
This is the fact we learn., And certain cynics try to
Assume this cruel plan Is one that must apply to
The social life of man.

On other beasts, we know; And these in turn are laying
The weaker creatures low: "It's Nature's law of being,"
Philosphere proclaim, While ruthlessly decresing
That Man must do the same,
But why should man be guided By Nature's savage creed? Or all his ways decided
By strength and craft and greed?
For though his life's a bungle *-- Faz worse than we could wish. He road hot ape the jungle,
