2nd November, 1872,
I have the honour to state that this outlay was absolutely necessary to complete the furnishing of Government House in accordance with the arrangement made
by
my
Predecessor
and approved of by Your Lordships, that the Government House should be
supplied with everything necessary
for
its immediate occupation, the Governor for the time being
paying ...% interest per annum
on
all
the
outlay.
I am at the present time paying at the rate of $477
per
annum
for
the
use of the
furniture now in Government House, a somewhat heavy charge
I may observe that an inventory of the
furniture & fittings of the House (included
in
pages
1 to 16), is in charge,
but
I propose shortly to appoint a Board to oversee
the whole furniture
with a view
to the sale of obsolete and useless articles which swell
the List and
are
of
no use.
I have the honour to be,
My Lord,
Your Lordship's most obedient
humble servant,
Kennedy
Governor.
