Sir, I note that your correspon- dent, Mr. Watson in to-night's issue of your valuable paper, in Sir.-In my opinion, it is time answer to Mr. Chao Fal'e lotter some of your correspondents on Philippine Independence, says | ceased writing so much "tosh" on that he is not a squawman, and the subject of Philippine Inde-that he was born in London, Eng pondence, theroby occupying land, married in England to an valuable space which could be English lady, and that he has four devoted to some more useful flaxen hair children, and that he has been married but once, and Пригрове.

Sir,-For the benefit of "F.Z.A." who assorts that I have inaptly revelled in the past glories of ancestors and compared them with the present-day political Filipino leaders, I wish to state that I never made this com. parison. Replying to Mr. Watson in the affirmative when he asked me if the Portuguese were justified in their Independence campaign against the Spaniards, I stated that Portugal before that epoch had not only demonstrated her ability to control the reins of Home-government but bad roady laid the foundation of a far-flung colonial government in the four quarters of the earth. By way of illustration I quoted divers Portuguese discoveries. Mr. Watson, who was really the party responsible for this invidious com- parison, had nothing more to say about this particular issue after that, and began to make ignoraut jokes about Moses and the cir- cumnavigation of the earth. How cab you argue with a man who, when presented with historical facts and dates, converts the samo into ridicule?
||
As for "F.Z.A's" insinuations about the people I ao "glibly talked of" and their chimerical addiction to opium-smoking, I think that this departure from the truth is only intended to create inimical feelings between that community and his.
I
The above statements, are very gratifying and of the deepest interest to the public, but they do not answer Mr. Fat's letter. He says that the Moros and the Christian Filipince have become. great friends. That is not true, as the Moros have only contempt for the Filipinos. The Chinese
and Filipings have never been
friends, and never ca be. The Sir-As the British, Portugese farmer, owing to their thrifty and and Chinese bave so much to say temperate habits, and also owing about Filipino Independence, I as to the lazy, shiftless ways of the

Sorry to say the Islands are polluted by a certain clique of Mr. Chan Fat's letter as to whe corrupt and incompetent polither he has ever tried the great ticians, who style themselves our Filipino delicacy landers. If they had Hongkong, Aug., 1st, 1923. their way, to further their own selfish ends, they would sacrifice the people and plunge the islands into chaos and poverty, as they almost did under the Harrison Administration.
The great mass of the Filipinos are prosperous, happy and con tented under the just rule of Americs. Governor Wood is one of the best friends we have among the Americans, who all have our true interests at heart. He truly understands us better than wol understand ourselves, knowing what is best for the advancement of our race and of the perils that surround us; he realizes how! helpless and lust we would be if! abandoned and left without the guidance and protection of the U.S. A.
I wish to express my sincere thanks to Mr. Silva, on behalf of the real Filipinos for his intertest in our welfare. I think that Mr. Silva is a true friend and has the interest of our people at heart.
