men,

The number of persons of this class allowed to go into the United States yearly from Russia. under the new regulations is 24,405. Beginning July 1 the new year opens and the immigrants will be allowed entrance until the above number bas been reached. The number is restricted, however, to 20 per cent, of the total entrance each month. Under this clause only 4 881 can be taken into the United States each month. When this number has been resobed the bate will be put up again until the first day of the next month when an equal sumber will be allowed to pabe. This will con- tinue until the year's quota has been filled.

At the present prospects it is not thought that it will be long until the year's quota has been filled or the monthly quotsa reached. It is reported in Yoko- hama that several hundred of the travellers have been bookedfor steamers arriving at Americau ports during the first half of July. It is also stated that bookings on

Atlantic routes too have been equally heavy and that it will be only a few days of each month until the requistite number has been reached and no further entries allowed until the first of ́ the next period.
