Discipline was splendid throughout. The crew suffered con- alderably owing to shortage of water, one third of a cigarette tin of which was issued daily. The rations consisted of the lid of a cigarette tin full of condensed milk twice daily, and one biscuit. Two native fishermen died of exposure and were consigned to the sen. The remainder of the crew landed weak, but rapidly recover- ed with the attention, administered.
Hopes are entertained of the safety of the second boat, which was a lower craft.
THE SINGAPORE NAVAL BASE.
London, June 28,
In the House of Commons, replying to, Lieutenant Commander. Kenworthy, member for Central Hull, Mr. Amery said that the cost of the projected graving dock at Singapore was estimated at £1,000,000, and that the cost of a floating dock of the same size would be about the same. It was proposed, he said, to construct a graving dock capable of taking simultaneously two ships of the maximum size allowable under the Washington Agreement. → The total cost on navy votes during the next decade, of the "dockyard and naval base at Singapore, with all accessories was roughly estimated at $10,500,000. If any additional fortifications were required they would come on army votes, but he did not contemn- plate any such expenditure.
