Among the papers taid on the table at the Legislative Council meeting this afternoon was the report by the Superintendent of Prisons for the year 1022.

The

The percentage of convicted prisoners admitted to prison with previous convictions recorded against them was 144 us com pared with 10.6 for 1921.
Eighty prisoners were whipped by order of Coorts. There was one escape and two attempts to escape. There were 13 deaths (8, natural causes and 5 executions)
There were 10 accidents, com- pared with 131 in 1921, but 22 were fatal as against 16 the previous year. Of the accidente reported, 74 were due to motor care and 17 to tramcars. Twelve of the motor accidents, ware fatal, and 8 of those connected with tramcare.
