in the Postal Service at Shanghai, I trust that the Treasury would sanction the ground being made available for the purpose indicated at a nominal rent.

The lease of the present Post Office will expire in March 1874, but as by that date the new building would not be erected, or at all events would not be fit for occupation. I should advise that the term be extended, say for six months or for such longer time as would enable me to complete the necessary arrangements.
