AFTERNOON
OUR EVENING DRESSES. H******!
The bare-back evening gown is dying a slow death. Many of the latest models are daringly, low in cut, with only shoulder straps to make up for the
sleeves, but most of them have a absence of
round or oval-cut neck which does. not call for a bare back. Another comforting feature about the modern evening dress is that it is! cut up much bigher under the arms, so that there is practically no expanse of flest to be seen here either.

BECOMING "NIGHTIE”.
MODELS.
Many of the latest model nightgowns have no slee- ves and the armhole is simply finished off by a lace or a binding cut on the cross of the same material as the gown. A favourite idea is to finish the body part of the gown in four peaks that are drawn together on the shoulder with a big bow of ribbon.
The latest model is very wide and either accordion- pleated or foely tucked. The fullness is drawn in at the waist by a ribbon. finished in front with long bows and ends.

MODERN NEGLIGEES.
Another plain but be- coming type is copied from old-fashioned m 16- culine night-shirt; it is fa- shioned of soft silk, and on "the plastron front is em- broidered a monogram in extra big letters: the slee- ves of this model are long and are finished with turn- back cuffs.

„DRAPED_LAMPSHADES. BEADED FROCKS FOR
EVENING.
The most intriguing furnishingŢ novelties are the new draped lamp and electric light abades. These have sprung into fashion owing to the general adoption of the powerful half-watt lights that, although quite ides: fron & illuminating point of view, give so white and dazzling a light, and produce such a powerful heat, that they call for something a little more substantial than the old-fashioned thin silk sbade.
The latest shades are cleverly draped with flounces and flutings of georgette, and are designed on ample proportions, introducing m gew dome-shape.
The prettiest of all are shales that show the upper half of the dome covered with finely-fluted georgette, while the lower half consists of a wide band of hand- painted or colour-printed chiffon, over-draped with flounce-like frills or a series of scalloped draperies finished with delicate fringe. The effect is excellent, for the light glows softly through the folds of the georgette, throwing the lower printed border into bold relief, any harshness of the pattern being subdued by the chiffon draperies.
CLOTH OF GOLD.
The brightness of the watt- lights is allowing quite thick fabrics to be used for lampshades
