The troops up river have robbed the rice boats they came down, and the Kienning magistrate has put a very heavy tax on rice leaving | T/T. Jasa ... that district. The consequence is that no bosta are coming down, and the supply is very low. The situation is serious, and unleas relief comes soon, there will be trouble.
In the Shaowu district, the bandits have been giving a good deal of trouble. A short tima. ago Mr. and Mrs. Christian, of the American Board Mission, were held up and robbed, and we now hear that the Rev. C. L Storrs bas met with a similar experience. They took nearly all that he had, including his clothes, but left him his typewriter.
