NEW AVIATION RECORD.

San Diego, Mar é A new world record in a long-distance flight of 2700 miles has been established by Lieutenants Maeready and Kelly, who arrived from New York in 26 hours and 50'minutes in a moneplane with a wing-spread of 976 inches and propelled by a four-hundred horse power Liberty Motor.

Both aviators were in good physical condition when they alighted. The trip was pleasant and almost without incident. They steered by compass during night-time. The machine by then was greatly lightened of its load of fuel and sosred like an eagle. The aviators exchanged places at the wheel every the Rockies six hours.

отег

Macready and Kelly have made the best previous long distance record of two-thousand miles in November 1922, when they attempted a fight from San Diego to the east coast of America, but were forced to land, owing to engine trouble. They now contemplate a world flight.

THE WATER AUTHORITY.

The Examiners of Queen's College, who sre Goverment officiala, say in their report on that school that they were far too often informed that "the whole is greater than its part, which is absurd." Probably the students referred to the Water Authority, considering that they are here: which on the whole is absurd.

There His Fx- cellency was received by the Governor of Macao and Madame Horta, and at one o'clock a large number of prominent civil and military officials were duly presented.

The Bishop of London, presiding at the annual meeting of the Corean Mission, read a letter reporting steady progress in Church work there. He believed that if an income of £10,000 was assured in a few years the Church can become self-supporting and rely on the native born ministry to carry on by themselves. There were now 5.000 nauve and 500 Japanese Christians in Korea, but the work of the missionaries was confined to an area the size of Wales.

SINGAPORE NAVAL BASE.

Melbourne, May 4.

The Aye says the decision to establish a strong naval base at Singapore is a signiäcant change in Imperial policy, giving Austrália intense satisfaction. Britain for many years had been strangely Indifferent to the interests of the Pacific, and it was absurd to suggest that the Singapore base would be a menace to any other power.
