NOTED PIANIST

Professor Sklarevski's Concerts.

Hongkong will have an opport unity of hearing a pianist of the first class on Monday and Tues- day evenings, when Professor Alexander Sklaṛovski will give two recitals at the City Hall. Those who have had the pleasure af hearing this claver musloiso will no doubt eagerly anticipate renewing the acquaintance, whilst to those who have never beard him the opportunity is one that should not be missed.

It is interesting to note that st Monday afternoon's concert, Professor Sklarevski will play for the first time in Hongkong the whole twelve Etudes of Chopin, as well as the famous paraphrase of Straces's Blue! Danube Wallz, which is one of the most difficult pieces aver written for the piano.

Professor Sklareraki, who was born in South Russia, studied in his early years under Professor Benois at the Imperial Conser- vatory at Petrogard, where he graduated with gold medal hon. ours in 1908. Later he studied with the eminent Ferrucio Busoni in Berlin and Lucien Wurmser in Paris. In 1912, the Russian Government opened the tbird Imperial Conservatory el Music at Saratov which is the educational centre of the eastern part of Russia, and Professor Sklarevski accepted an invitation to become professor there, later being elected Director by the. Council of Protessors. Since 1918, he has been touring the world with huge success, and besides appearing in all parts of the East he has played to in mense audiences in New York, Paris and in Canada.
