to the District Watchmen.-

In addition to the recommendation of Mr. Jonnochy, the General has Attorney good spoken the most strongly in favour of Service of this corps, which was raised under the provisions of Ordinance No. 7 of 1866 (Section XII. et seq.)

The slight increase ($440) by which the Acting Registrar proposes to meet not only the arrears due, but also additions to the Salaries of some of the men who have served 4 or 5 years has been met by a unanimous vote of the Finance Committee of which I trust Your Lordship will approve.-

Nevertheless, as it appears from the Report that the deficiency to be made up has partly resulted from the closing of the licensed Gambling Houses, which used to subsidise the District Watchmen's Fund, I should be glad to learn whether Your Lordship will sanction a donation from the interest of the Special Fund towards the expenses of the Watchmen at the rate (say) of $1,418 per annum.

I have the honor to be,

My Lord,

Your Lordship's most obedient,

humble Servant,

Kennedy

Governor
