NEW POLISH PRESIDENT ASSASSINATED.

The new President, M. Narutowicz, was assassinated during a visit to the Arts Exhibition. The assassin was a painter, named Niowadowsky, who thrice fired a revolver at M. Narutowicz at the Arti Exhibition at noon. It is stated that Niowadowsky had recently, show. ed signs of insanity.
Riot followed the election of M. Narutowicz, reported on the 10th inst.
Nationalist risters were largely students. Copying Fas cisti methods. they attempted to obstruct the President of the Diet driving through the cly and to prevent the meeting of the National Assembly on the occasion of the swearing in of M. Narutowicz. Strong police cardons of troops dealt with the situation, but the Deputies and Senators were hustled. Counter demonstrations were later organised by workmen who attacked the students. A fight ensued, in which a DIPLOMATIC. CHANGES. number were injured. The Chief of Police was subsequently dismissed."
