SPURIOUS COINAGE,
An Inundation from Anhui,
The Anhui Mint has enjoyed jan unenviable motoristy for some time paat in connection with the minting of light weight copper coins, but an even mora glaring
of the example
scandalous methods by which Chinese Gor- {erament officials in the provinces: bolster up their financial position | has recently come to light from
the same institution.
This time the coins emanating from the Aabüi Mint ara not coppar but "silver,” and it appears that a Government Mint has been guilty of the enormity of flooding

it appears, to the theft of part of consignment of such coins from shipping company's hulk at Nanking and to the subsequent inquiries which followed.
We have it on good authority that ід the two mouths and September last very large quantities of those spurious coins WITB shipped fram Anking, one com- pany alone having taken 91 ouseS valued at $363,000, says the North China Daily News. In addition Consignments of the same coins farrived at Nanking twice a week by junk, with the result that the local market at that place is now flooded with them and the gen uins subsidiary coinage is being Idriven out Each consignment from Anking was covered by a huchao issued by the Civil Gov- ernor of Anhui in which the con- tents of the cases were described as "doilers" (yin yuso) and on the arrival of each consigument at Nanking & representative of the Mint produced the huchao, passed the consögument through the Customs as "dollars" and took delivery.
-On ships' manifests these com- signments were variously de-
"treasure," scribed as "dollars," or "aycee," and none of them, in` view of the huchaos, was examio- ed by the Custome. The coins are in fact a spurious imitation of Kwangtung twenty-cent pieces manufactured by the Anhai Miat at Anking, which has thus even [surpassed its own previous record of utilizing its character as a Government institution to inflict great injury upon the trade of the country and all classes of people.
FUNERAL OF MR, ROBERT YOUNG.. The funeral of the late Mr. Rober: Young, proprietor and editor of the Japan Chronicle, at Kasugano, on the 10th. instant, wax a most impressive scene. The foreign community gathered in numbers rarely seen at a funeral, every nationality being represented. In addition, many Japanese were present. The family of the deceased was repres ented by the widow, and Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Young, Mr. Eric Young and Mr. and Mrs. Junker. In a touching address in the chapel Dr. Starr Jordan dwelt on the pure habits and ex.. emplary lifa of the deceased. and told of his relatious with him, which dated back to 1910. At the open grave, Mr.. Whymark, as Mr. Young's oldest friend, read a sympathetic review of deceased's life in Kobe and his work for the good of the com. munity, and concluded by saying that his
memory would be cherished in Kobe for generations to come.
LONDON'S ORGANS.
The Sweetest-Toned One.
Though lovere of organ music are well catered for at the present season in various City churches, few of them ever have an opport- anity of hearing the organ in the ball of the Worshipful Company of Parish Clerks, said by connoisseurs to be the

The rec zda of the conipany show that it was built, in 1660, ten years before the oldest church organ in London-that at St. Sepulchres. It was acquired so a3 to enable members of the cop- pany the better to perform the service, incumbent upon them before the Lord Mayor-and Alderman of the City of London on Mlobasices Day, and also the better to enable those who already are or hereafter shall be | parlak olerks of the City and Westminster in performing their disse syveral paslikes to which fry stand volated.”
